I made this card for a man who owns a part share of a boat – men are SO hard to make cards for so I hope the nautical theme isn’t lost on him! Because it was intended for a man I wanted it to be very simple, with a rather masculine colour palette so the nautical colours of blue, white and brown were good to work with on this project.
I used white card, kraft cards and envelopes, 2″ circular punch, twine, glossy accents, blue and watermark ink pads, ‘Star fish’, ‘Wentletrap’ and ‘Creative inspiration’ stamps – all from Different Colors Summer Stamp Collection 2011 and circular sentiment stamps from Lili of the Valley.
First I cut two circles with the punch, inked up the circular sentiments and stamped them onto the circles (the ‘time to’ on one side only and the ‘happy birthday’ on both sides). Then I used a pin to pierce some holes to thread the twine through, making them bigger once the intial holes had been made. I cut the white card to size then stamped the ‘Creative inspiration’ in blue and ‘Wentletrap’ in watermark ink. I glued the white square to the front of the Kraft card, then stamped some more ‘Wentletrap’ along the bottome of the card in watermark ink. Once the glue & ink had dried I wrapped some twine around the front of the card and threaded it through the top card circle, then I tied it in a knot to secure it to the card, threading one of the loose ends through the other circle so it would hang free like a tag. I used glossy accents to secure the top card circle and twine in place so it wouldn’t slide around, but left the second one free so there was a bit of movement in the card.
