Today is my Step Sister’s birthday – her first since the loss of her older brother. I wanted to make her a card that was feminine but a bit elegant and different.
I love the impact a black card has – not the first colour you would reach for for a birthday card, right? But I hope you will agree this turned out nicely!
The first ever Indigo Blu stamp I ever purchased was Ella Bella, but I’ve never used it!!! I think it’s just gorgeous, but never had a project that screamed ‘Ella’ before now.
The first time I tried to stamp this image on black I used Flitter Glu and Flakes and I think the stamp must have warped in storage because it just would not stamp a clear image! Needless to say I had to clean the stamp thoroughly with Easy Peasy Stamp Cleaner and left it for 2 days to let it recover a flat stamping surface.
The next time around I used StazOn Metallic Copper ink (Tsukineko), but I still couldn’t get a clear image so I had to stamp several times on scrap before I was happy with the image (I’m still not 100% happy, but I thought I could use the ‘distressed’ description & get away with it!).
I have some metallic papers in my stash from when I was at University in Liverpool and I used a punch from the Pick of the Bunch Punch and Stamp Set to create copper ‘cornflowers’ (three ‘star’ shaped punched shapes combined) from the papers. I made a hole in the middle of the flowers with a poking tool and inserted a brad in the centre of each flower.
I cut out the panels with my guillotine and attached the flowers using the brads, then attached the panels with foam pads for dimention. Last, but not least I curled all the petals on the flowers up to add more dimention.
