50th Birthday Card

Happy Saturday everyone! Are you enjoying the weekend?

Tomorrow I’m going to one of my Mum’s former colleague’s new house in St. Albans – from what I’ve seen it looks very nice with an ultra modern interior! Even though all the people my Mum worked with eventually left where they were working together, they have stayed in touch & have regular social gatherings. This gathering will be to celebrate one of the group’s 50th birthday.

When he was younger he really enjoyed rugby & his son plays rugby too, so I had to make him a card with a rugby theme. I’ve already created some Rugby-themed cards earlier this year, so I already had Lili of the Valley’s ‘Rugby Mad‘ stamp, so I got him out again & stamped the image using Memento Tuxedo Black ink & coloured him in using Promarkers. Because the birthday boy is of Scottish origins I coloured his kit with ‘Indigo Blue’ and ‘True Blue’, his skin is ‘Blush’, ‘Oatmeal’ and ‘Pastel Pink’. His hair is ”Sunflower’, ‘Gold’ and ‘Pumpkin’. His boots are mainly ‘Slate’, the rugby ball is ‘Burgundy’ and ‘Primrose’ and the mud/grass stains are ‘Burnt Umber’ and ‘Forest Green’.

I started with a dark green 6×6 base card, I used my embossing ink pen and drew a line on the card & sprinkled ‘Seafoam White’ embossing powder on it to create a try line. Next I used my Waltzingmouse ‘Splat that‘ set inked in SU! ‘Early Espresso’ ink to create mud patches on the pitch.

From some green card in my stash (so it doesn’t match the base card, but I don’t think it should have matched too closely anyway) I cut some grass using my Memory Box ‘Grassland Border’ (825); because the die isn’t as long as the card I lined the die up with the end of the last cut – & I think you can’t tell where, so it must have worked!!

After much thought I decided a try-themed pun wouldn’t go amiss, so instead of putting the 50 on the front of the card I thought I would put “21 AGAIN?” on the front & on the inside “nice try – Happy 50th!”. I used the Whimsy Stamps ‘Spell It Out‘ set by Raindrop Echo Designs on cream card to create all the letters for the sentiment. Because this set doesn’t have numbers or punctuation I used the empty tile & stamped the numbers etc from another alphabet set I have – no idea who made it now!

I attached the letter tiles with roll-on glue to the card base, then attached the grass with Quicky Glue Pen.

To create the sentiment on the inside of the card I used the Spellbinders Labels 2 die set & cut some dark blue card with the 3rd largest die, then some light blue with the 2nd largest. I ran both labels through my Big Shot again with my rubber embossing mat. I ran the larger of the two Cheery Lynn ‘Happy’ dies through my Big Shot with some Snow White Centura Pearl. I attached the light blue label over the pale blue one with roll-on glue, then attached the labels to the inside of the card base. I used American Crafts thickers in ‘sprinkles’ for the 5oth and attached the ‘Happy’ with some Quicky Glue Pen.

On the Lili of the Valley Monthly Challenge they are doing Male or Sporty because of Father’s Day next weekend, so I would like to enter this card for the June Challenge.
