My Step Mother lives in Hua Hin in Thailand, and so when I heard about the bombings on Friday I was fearful that she might have been injured or killed. Thankfully she was at home because the bombings were early in the morning so she wasn’t out and about at the time.
I wanted to make a card for my Step Mum as I haven’t made her one in ages and the fear of losing her made me realise that staying in touch is a good thing. It’s monsoon season in Thailand so it’s raining a lot at the moment so I thought my brand new My Favourite Things ‘Layered Umbrella’ die and Lawn Fawn ‘Puffy Clouds’ dies would be very fitting.
First, I used the 12×12 raindrops stencil and ‘Tumbled Glass’ Distress Ink and ink bblender to make a raining background, but I left a section where I didn’t ink through the stencil that will be where the umbrella will eventually go.
I die cut the largest umbrella die from matt silver cardstock, then the layering part from white, red, yellow and orange cardstock in my stash (I wanted the umbrella to be a pop of colour in the otherwise sombre card) and the handle from my SSS Kraft woodgrain embossed card [this is no longer available, but they do still sell it in white]. I then used my Quicky Glue pen to stick all the bits together, and when it was dry stuck it to the card front.
I die cut the Lawn Fawn Puffy clouds dies from Stampin’UP! Whisper White and Smokey Slate cardstock and vellum, trimmed them to the card width, then used foam pads to attach them to the card base.
I bought the Stampin’UP! Seasonal Snapshot 2015 Project Life Accessory Pack last year for scrapbooking, but haven’t used any of the alphabet stickers. The black block stickers were just what I wanted for the sentiment for this card, so I adhered the stickers to the card front (I had to trim a few letters in ‘umbrella’ or it was going to go off the side of the card, but hopefully it isn’t that noticable).
Thanks for dropping by my blog, I hope you found this card inspiring, and I hope you visit again soon!
