Today was my Step Dad’s 70th birthday, I gave him his card at the weekend so I think I can share it with you now.
I wanted to go for a masculine colour scheme, but with lots of sparkle as it is a card for a big birthday.
I created the diagonal box card using my Crafter’s Companion Ultimate Pro with some A3 double sided Centura Pearl card.
I die cut loads of Lawn Fawn balloons from black card and added some black Wink of Stella to a few of them to get a little bit of glitter (it turns out it’s gold glitter rather than silver, but I though it was fine…)
For my birthday I was given some birthday money so I bought a Fuse Tool, and when it arrived I really wanted to use it to create a shaker element to this card so I used the waterfall fuse pouches and the largest balloon die cuts and the metal dies to create balloon shakers. I added some Nuvo Pure Sheen glitter and Martha Stuart stars in white to tie in with the white card base.
A friend of mine lent me her number dies so I used them to cut out the 70s from the card base panels and balloon.
Once I was happy that I had all the balloons I would need I cut some strips of acetate and started adhering the balloons to the exploding card base, either directly or on the acetate strips so they appear to be floating out of the box.
So here it is in all its glory (excuse all the stuff in the background – I really need to get back in the habit of photographing my cards properly!!!)
Will your family be celebrating any ‘big’ birthdays this year? Let me know in the comments section below.
