Trees color trends challenge

This is my entry for the ‘Trees color trends challenge’ on the Embellish magazine blog. I don’t know if your parents were always quoting age-old quotes to you, but my parents used to say ‘money doesn’t grow on trees’ whenever I asked for a pony for Christmas… That’s where my inspiration came from – I wanted to depict a ‘money tree’, because some species of tree have such lovely coloured bark or leaves that they could be growing something money can’t buy… I also wanted butons on the card to depict coins (maybe a bit too arty & theoretical, but I felt the need).

I saw this stamp on IndigoBlu’s website and I thought “Got to have that!!!” but didn’t know what I would do with it, I also bought a Flitter Glu starter pack and some Winter Dawn Mega-Flake. After a few false-starts (read the instructions that come with the kit – they do actually work, instead of assuming “how hard can it be? I’ll do it my way…”) I was able to stamp the tree in VersaFine Vintage Sepia ink on pale blue card and then clean the stamp and stamp over the top (using rulers to guide me) with Flitter Glu, then applying the Mega-flake and taking off the excess with the scoochy sponge. Then I cut the card with my guillotine and cut a brown piece of card to fit underneath it. Then I cut a 6×8 base card in the same brown card and cut a piece of metalllic green card to fit over the front.

I created the sentiment in Microsoft Word myself and printed it on yellow paper, reenforcing it with the same brown card. I found three yellow buttons in my stash that were the same shade of yellow as the paper and arranged the sentiment, tree and buttons as I wanted them then attached the card with roll-on glue and the buttons with Inkssentials Glossy Accents. I couldn’t find a yellow ribbon in my stash that was the same yellow as the paper and buttons – it was too bright and looked wrong, so I went for this blue ribbon, which I’m sure you will agree matches the card rather well!
