Mini card – Autumn thinking of you

Hi everyone!! I’ve been seeing lots of mini cards on other people’s blogs – for some cute Halloween ideas see Elizabeth Allan’s blog.

I was waiting for a friend to pop over for a cup of tea and some cake, so I wanted a quick make that wouldn’t involve getting out loads of materials that I needed to quickly tidy away when my friend arrived. I wanted to try my hand at a simple mini card, so I cut one of my square white premade cards in half with my guillotine (TIP: don’t make your blade work too hard & cut it unfolded, then you get a cleaner cut edge).

I’ve had a leaf punch from HobbyCraft for almost a year, I bought it with the aim of sticking some ‘Autumnal leaves’ to a project I never got round to starting, so I had quite a few pre-punched purple, yellow, brown and dark red leaves in my stash. I punched a few more leaves from the sheets of card I had used last time and then started to work out how I wanted my wreath to look (ie. would it be one of each colour in a pattern or random…). Once I was happy with a random colour scheme I drew a pencil circle on the card where I  wanted to have the wreath (don’t try to stick the leaves on free-hand or you could end up with an oval- or egg-shaped wreath!!!) I grabbed punched leaves at random & used roll-on permanent glue to attach them to the circle (TIP: if you are using punched-out leaves they look best if you put the next leaf over the ‘stalk’ of the previous one – you can see on both cards that I tried to change the direction the leaves were going at some point & the stalk bits on show doesn’t look as nice as the tips of the leaves).

For the sentiment I used a HobbyCraft wood-mounted rubber stamp and VersaFine Vintage Sepia ink stamped at a bit of an angle at the bottom of the cards.
