I have two male friends who are in need of ‘good luck’ cards this week – one who is defending his MSc project and another who is sitting his first year Medical exams. Because they are both male I decided I wanted to make the same card but with personal touches, such as the colours of their University.
First I decided to use the Lili of the Valley ‘Back to School Boy‘ stamp because it was boyish and academic! I recently purchased the Stampin’ Up! ‘First Edition‘ paper that would go really well with the exams theme, so I decided that that had to be incorporated in the cards too.
I got two A6 white cards for the base, then I cut some kraft paper to go on top and a piece of ‘First Edition’ to go on top of that and attached them with double sided tape.
Next I carefully stamped ‘Back to School Boy’ twice on some white card and cut them out. Next I got some more kraft paper and trimmed it to make a frame for the boys. I had two tiny tags on which I stamped the sentiment from Waltzingmouse ‘Asian Gardens‘.
The Liverpool John Moores sports team colours are dark blue and true blue so I used Promarkers in lots of blues for the uniform for the first boy. The Imperial College colours are burgundy, yellow, white, sky blue and purple so I tried to find the best fitting Promarker shades for the other boy.
I attached the boys to their kraft paper frame with double sided tape and then stuck them over the top of the card at an angle over the string for the tag so it would hang free. I thought the LJMU card was a bit stark white when I was done, so for the Imperial one I sponged some Vintage Photo ink over the edges with a blender tool.
