I won’t lie, but I’m a bit of an arachnophobe! As long as a spider stays still, I can deal with it, the second it scuttles anywhere, that’s it – I’m shrieking & leaving via the nearest exit! So I have no idea why I came up with this idea, but I thought the Stampin’ UP! Curvy Keepsake Box (CKB) dies would make a cute spider!
I went to Hobbycraft & bought some black Chenille Stems & Adhesive Eyes (both in the Halloween section, so a really quick shopping spree!). From some SU! Basic Black card stock I cut two of the CKB shapes to make the box, adhered them together with double sided tape, and used my bone folder to create the curve of the box sides. Then, with the box unassembled, I made sure the bottom of the box was facing upwards & I added a line of Glossy Accents (Ranger) to the ‘front’ of the box bottom & pressed the middle of a Chenille Stem into the Glossy Accents and held it in place for a short while with tweezers. Next I added a line of Glossy Accents at the ‘back’ of the bottom of the box and pressed another Chenille Stem into this. I repeated this process two more times between the first two Chenille stems so there would be eight legs, then to make sure this set firmly I placed it under a heavy book overnight.
The next day I recovered my flattend spider from under the dictionary & assembled the box, then added two googly eyes. I bent the Chenille Stems to look like spiders legs – et voila!
I’ve decided to call this Charlotte (from Charlotte’s Web), now I just need to figure out how to make Wilbur!
What do you think – too cute to spook, or still as scary as the real thing?
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
