Mum’s birthday card

So I was apparently in such a rush to get to my Mum’s house at the weekend that I didn’t take a photo of her birthday card, so the only photo I have of it was taken on my phone on her laminate flooring!!! I’m really sorry that the photo quality isn’t great!

I wanted to use my new MFT ‘All About You’ stamp set and to make the sentiment centre stage. I’m sure that if you’ve followed my blog for a while you will know that my Mum is green fingered and has a fabulous garden and also lots of house plants.

I recently bought the TODO ‘Tropical Leaves’ dies and matching letterpress and hot foil plates. I had used the pineapple to foil a card for my Granny, but other than that I haven’t used the hot foil function on my TODO, so I thought, “I can’t have these supplies sitting around and not put them to good use!”. I cut down a piece of card to fit the front of an A6 card base and heated up my TODO and used the hot foil plates and green foil and foiled some leaves on the panel around the edges. I dont think it looked too bad!

Once I knew the hot foiling had worked ok I used my stamp platform to line up my sentiment in the middle of the panel, I’m glad I used my stamp platform because I ended up stamping it twice to get the ink deep and black.

I thought I would try a sort of letterpressing with the letterpress plates so I inked one with Stampin’ UP! ink and used the letterpress plate to stamp onto the sentiment panel, again I don’t think it looked too bad!

I smooshed some green Distress Inks onto my Ranger craft mat and spritzed with some water, then placed a piece of watercolour card into the inks and repeated this several times until I had managed to cover the card in green ink. I used my heat gun to dry the card, then used a Dreamweaver Monstera leaf die to die cut several leaves from the watercoloured piece of card. I also die cut some of the TODO ‘Tropical Leaves’ from the watercoloured panel, but didn’t have full leaves, so I just used the bits to accessorise around the edges of the card and make it look fuller.

For a little somethin’ somethin’ I added nuvo crystal drops in Woodland Green.

Bdaycard

I really like how this card turned out with the foiling and die cuts for interest. Even though this card has lots of elements I think it’s quite a clean and simple card – let me know what you think in the comments!
