My new job starts in 2 days!!!!! Very excited!!!
But enough about me… My niece’s 6th birhtday is very soon (such a shame that it is so close to Christmas 😦 but that’s not her fault!) I decided that I don’t do enough ‘age’ cards, so I made my mind up to do one.
I really hate winter (I know lots of people love the winter because it makes them think of Christmas, but it just makes me cold & tired & depressed) so I wanted to give her card a bright colour palette to shake off winter blues. I had wanted to get her a lovely book I enjoyed about an elephant and a boy travelling in India, but when I looked on the internet it was out of print and only available from collectors for vast sums!!!! So I found a lovely book about Indian children’s tales that had a moral to each short story & thought she would enjoy reading & looking at the pictures in that just as much.
Because of the book and the summer colour palette there was only one thing I could do – break out my trusty Stampin’ Up Paisley Party Stampin’ Around wheel! I found a wood mounted decorated elephant stamp and stamped that onto some super smooth white card. I cut a rectangle around it with my guillotine and then coloured it in with my Promarkers Summer 2012 Limited Edition set and cool greys. I stamped a ‘6’ in black ink and then ran my Paisley Party Stampin’ Around wheel over it, then inked it with Distress Ink ‘Mowed Lawn’. When the ink had dried I cut out the 6.
Next I used my guillotine to cut about 1/3 off the front of a square white base card. Then I stamped the front of the card with Artemo clear paisley stamps in black ink. I used Distress Ink in ‘Picked Raspberry’ (Ranger) to colour the front of the card, masking the back with Post-It notes. Next I used Post-It notes to mask off the inside of the card and inked the exposed section in ‘Squeezed Lemonade’.

Last but not least I glued the back of the 6 and stuck it to the front of the card, then I glued the back of part of the elephant and stuck it very carefully over the edge of the front.
