Natalie’s 30th Birthday card

So I know two people who’s birthdays happen to fall on Valentine’s Day, one of them was my flat mate at Uni. This year is the year of 30th birthdays, so I wanted to send her a card for the ‘big’ birthday. She’s an amazingly talented lady who makes clothes and fabric accessories, so I wanted to reflect this in her card.

I have a 12 x 12 paper pad ‘DIY Shop’ by American Crafts, that has a sewing pattern page, so I drew around the shaped card I would be using for the base on the back of the paper & fussy cut it out, then used roll-on glue to attach it to the card base.

To continue with the sewing theme I used the IndigoBlu ‘Sewing Mends the Soul’ stamp set and stamped a thimble on white card and coloured it with DR3 Spectrum Noir pen and fussy cut it out to adhere to the front of the card. I also stamped the sewing machine on some white card and inked over it with ‘old paper’ Distress Ink, then coloured the reels of thread with the same alcohol pen and attached it to the front of the card with roll-on glue. Then, I stamped the sentiment straight onto the patterned paper.

I wanted to create some stitching on the ‘badge’ so I used the orange/lemon from the ‘Feeling Fruity’ Whimsy stamp set, but tried to mask off the internal circle (with limited success). I then die cut the circle with the Spellbinders ‘Standard Circles Small’ die. I die cut this circle twice. Using the Memory Box ‘Parker Numbers’ I cut a 3 and 0 from pearlescent red card and attached it inside the dotted circle with Quicky Glue.

I wanted to add a pop of colour, as the sewing pattern is very beige, so I used some red ric-rac and red buttons from my stash. I attached the ric-rac with Glossy Accents to one of the die-cut circles, let it dry, then attached the other circle on top. I was then able to attach the badge to the front of the card using the circular card back.

Have a nice weekend, if you get Valentine’s card(s), enjoy, if you don’t, don’t worry you aren’t alone – I won’t get one either!
