Charlie’s 30th Birthday card

Next week another of my friends will be turning 30, but I’m travelling to a two-day veterinary conference later today so I need to make the card now because I won’t have time whilst I’m away.

My friend is a sound engeneer so music was an obvious choice of theme for his card. I’ve seen lots of dies recently that look like headphones or like iPhones or MP3 players, but I can’t afford anything like that at the moment, so I’ll have to try going ‘Old School’.

I started with a textured white card for the base. Using images of the iPod Classic for inspiration, I cut a piece of pearlescent grey/black card, then used a corner rounding punch to create the unit. Using two of the circle dies from Spellbinders ‘Standard Circles Small’ set I cut a larger circle from black card and a smaller one from pearlescent black.

Using roll-on glue I attached the smaller circle on the larger one, then I used the arrow from Stampin’UP! ‘Show & Tell 1’ clear photopolymer stamp set to create the buttons, and an Inkssentials white pen for the lines.

For the screen I cut a rectangle from Smoky Slate Stampin’UP! card stock and again used the courner rounding punch. The numbers were die-cut using Memory Box ‘Parker numbers’. I used roll-on glue to attach the screen & wheel to the unit, then attached the ‘iPod’ to my card base. I wish I had stamped the background with some musical notes now, but hindsight is a wonderful thing!

I hope you’ve all had a lovely weekend & wish you an enjoyable week ahead!

POST SCRIPT: Errr… so this is awkward!! It WAS one of my friends called Charlie’s birthday on 17th February, the only problem is, it wasn’t sound engeneer Charlie!!! Being Dyslexic means I can sometimes get mixed up or get things wrong, and I think what happened was I was posting out invites to my birthday party & trying to make cards at the same time; I checked my birthday book & saw ‘Charlie’, then wrote the invite for Charlie (sound engeneer) and my brain must have gone “it’s Charlie’s birthday, better make a card.” and I put the invite and birthday card in the same envelope… D’oh!
