Disclaimer: I made this card at the beginning of September 2017, but I’m only blogging about it now! If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen the galaxy background I painted for this card on September 7th, I’m so sorry it’s taken me this long to let you know about the finished card! This card is really flat as I had to post it to my friend for her birthday.
I taped some watercolour card to my board with masking tape and used Distress Inks and Nuvo Aqua Flow pens to create random shapes of colours. I think the colours I used were Azure Blue, Indigo Dawn and Obsidian Black. For the gold bits I used my Kuretake Gansai Tambi Starry Colors (number 903 Yellow Gold) and my water brush. I then flicked some white gesso over it to create ‘stars’ and left it to dry completely.
Despite taping it down the watercolour card had warped, so I ran it through my die cutting machine between the cutting plates to flatten it out, then I trimmed it to size. I layered it onto a white piece of card, then adhered the layers to a black A6 card base.
I stamped the Altenew moon full stamp with ‘Limestone’ ink and then stamped the layering stamp on top using ‘Industrial Diamond’ ink (both inks are in the Rock Collection of inks) having a stamping platform makes this really easy to line up the layers of layering stamps. I then fussy cut the moon (I think you can get a die, but I don’t have it) and adhered it to the galaxy background. The sentiment is also from the ‘To the Moon’ stamp set and I stamped this on Neenah classic crest card and then trimmed it to be slanted at one end and adhered this to the card front.
Have you made galaxy backgrounds for cards? What supplies have you used? I hope to see you again soon!
